Chickcomics.com welcomes all opinions from any religion or viewpoint in the common appreciation of Chick tracts. This blog, however, will highlight religious events and controversies that would be of special interest to regular Chick readers. You don't have to agree with them or each other, but if you read Chick tracts or Battlecry, you might expect these type stories to be addressed. (Sorry, no personal attacks allowed.) Mel Gibson Arrested

Mel Gibson, who raised controversy with 2004's "Passion of the Christ" over allegations of anti-Semitism, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence in Southern California. According to the AP, his blood alcohol content was a .12. Gibson has apologized for allegedly making anti-Semetic comments to the arresting deputies. Chick Publications has alleged that Gibson's "Passion" film was not as effective as Jack T. Chick's own "Light of the World."

Israel causes 70,000 ton oil spill

Already irking war activists, Israel takes on the environmental activists as well by blasting a non-terrorist target that caused a major fuel oil spill in the Mediterranean Sea. The tank held over 70,000 tons of fuel oil and was 25 meters from the sea. A Lebanese official claimed "Israel had to know this would create an environmental disaster." Environmentalists speculate the magnitude of the damage will surpass the Exxon Valdese spill in Alaska.
Meanwhile, in Seattle WA, a lone gunman opens fire on the sight of a pro-Israel demonstration, killing one.

Al Qaida calls for Muslim war on Israel

As Israel asks the US for time to continue raids into Lebanon, Al Quaida calls for a global war on Israel and seeks to purge all other religions from Europe and the Middle East. Hey, that's just want Chick said would happen in Skylighter!

Washington State upholds same sex wedding ban.

Washington State's highest court voted to uphold the ban on Gay marriage in a 5/4 decision. Gay activists were hoping they could thwart the will of the people through the back door of the courts, undoing a ban that was passed democratically by wide margins. See Chick's Sin City.

Kent "Dr. Dino" Hovind pleads "Not Guilty" to tax fraud

Kent Hovind pleads "not guilty" in his tax trial, and was told to surrender his passport and guns to the government. He was only allowed to meet with his wife 15 minutes before facing the court. She is also facing a similar 44 counts from the IRS. The local officials closed down the museum because it didn't have a permit. And to throw fuel onto the fire even further, the self proclaimed "experts" at the Southern Poverty Lawcenter claim Hovind is anti-Semitic... despite the fact he is a fanatical supporter of Israel.

US speeds up supply of bombs to Israel

The US agrees to speed up the resupply of high tech bombs for Israel and the fighting in the middle East. Critics claim it proves the USA is in the pocket of the Jewish state, while supporters applaud the bold move. See Chick's Men of Peace?

Georgetown University breaks with Baptists

Another college breaks ties with the Baptist leadership. Georgetown decided to end the connection after a request was made to have someone a Creationist on their staff. Other issues are often involved, like a faculty that is increasingly liberal and secular.

Critics accuse Bush of sexual harassment

President Bush gave the German President a comic back rub at the G8 meeting, and some critics are outraged. (Those angered most are the same folks who defended Clinton for sex with interns, haw-haw!) See Chick's Royal Affair.

Lesbos divorce 2 yrs after suing state to get married

The two lesbians that sued for the right to get married in 2004 in Massachusetts are now suing each other for divorce. That was fast. At least they helped bring a lot of lawyers together.

Dems block same sex marriage ammendment

Democrats in the House of Representatives succeed in blocking a Republican effort to pass a Constitutional ban on gay marriage. The measure requires a 2/3rds vote to pass, and that would require several cross over votes. The Senate attempted as similar measure last week, and failed for the same reason.

Israel/ Arab fighting continues

Israel sends troops across the Lebanese border in a raid, and continues to bomb its neighor with its air force. Militant fighters continue to send rockets into Israel. The death toll reaches over 225, almost all of which are Arabs, many of which are civilians.

Kent Hovind Arrested

Kent Hovind, aka, Dr. Dino, was arrested today for tax evasion. He had been publicly refusing to pay taxes for what he considered a religious activity (His Dinosaur Adventureland park in Florida, a place for creationists to explore an alternative history of the world that didn't include evolution). Hovind co-wrote/revised Chick's BIG DADDY, IT'S COMING and IN THE BEGINNING tracts. He also has a series of videos that Chick Publications publishes. Hovind irked many scientists with his public offer to pay anyone $250,000.00 if they could prove evolution.

Israel bombs Lebanon

Israel bombs several Lebanese homes, bridges, and an airport. Critics claim the killing of 55 plus Lebanese is not a fair response to damage and injuries caused by Hezbollah rocket attacks into Israel's borders, however the US vetoes a UN resolution such a claim. A Hezbollah official said "if you want full war, we'll give you full war." Gas prices climbed higher and the stock market continues to fall, as traders watch what started as an Israeli raid into Gaza grows into an expanding conflict on two fronts.

England Remembers

England remembers the 50+ civilians murdered by Muslim fanatics this time last year. The country was stunned to discover the four bombers who blew themselves up in crowded buses and trains were "home grown". The four young Arab men were technically English citizens on paper, but Muslim terrorists in their hearts and minds. ( So much for "diversity is our strength".) See Chick's Men of Peace?

Subgenius "X-day" passes

The infamous Subgenius "Rupture" came and went on July 5th. Contrary to their religious beliefs, flying saucers did not appear and whisk them away to Planet X. They've been predicting it would happen since 1998.

29 foot cross saved.. .for now

Justice Kennedy grants a stay preventing the removal of a 29 foot California cross erected to honor the Korean War soldiers. The California courts had ordered it removed. The high court has yet to hear the case. 90% of those surveyed believe the cross should stay.

Israel increases pressure

Israel, angry over the kidnapping of a soldier, increased the pressure on Palestinians by stating if the soldier is killed, the response will be "much more harsh" than it currently is. They've already moved tanks and troops into place, and blown up a power station to squeeze support against civilians. Any other tactics are expected to be directed at the civilian population as well (whom the terrorists blend in with). The Egyptians have offered to negotiate a prisoner exchange (the soldier exchanged for all Arab women and children in jail) but Israel refuses to negotiate. See Chick's Skylighter.
