Alumni opposition is mounting to the University of Notre Dame's invitation to President Obama to be a commencement speaker in May. The anger is fueled all the more since the historically Catholic school decided to award a doctoral degree to the outspoken pro abortion politician. (Obama was one of the few politicians to support partial birth abortions, and has recently overturned the ban on using human embryo cells for research.)
Inviting the most pro-abortion president in history to speak at a Catholic school is not the only issue, according to David Castanzo is a spokesman for the Cardinal Newman Society. "For a Catholic institution to make a clear and decisive move to award a doctoral degree to an individual who is so opposed to the pro-life movement, that is where the primary conflict comes into play," he explains.
