Catholic School Prostitution Scandal
Five players from nationally renowned DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) Catholic High School have been dismissed from the program after it was discovered that they hired prostitutes from a call service during a recent road trip.
The Washington Post reports that a parent of one of the players and two other sources close to the program confirmed that around 5 a.m. Saturday—the morning after a football game against Hillside (N.C.)—players sneaked three prostitutes into a hotel room. Some of the players engaged in sexual activities. The players used the Internet to find the call service.
None of the players were named because they are minors, but according to the Post, none were starters.
Two players withdrew from the school this week. Two others, according to the Post, have been recommended for expulsion pending appeal. The fifth player was expected to face a disciplinary hearing on Friday.
DeMatha coach Elijah Brooks said he could not comment on the situation. School principal Dan McMahon said he could not talk about disciplinary action either.
“If people break team rules, there are team sanctions, and if people break school rules, there are school sanctions,” he told the Post.
Sources said that bed checks were done at 1:30 a.m., and a final hallway check came at 4 a.m. There were 18 adults supervising the trip.
“My concern is where were the coaches and chaperones and how did this happen?” a parent said to the Post. “These are boys, you should have been on them, knocking on their doors…Why are there (18) coaches at this hotel and kids are able to sneak three prostitutes in at 5 a.m.?” See Chick's MEN IN BLACK.
