John Edwards Off Message

Senator John Edwards appeared on the Diane Rehm (NPR) radio show to promote his book and his bid for the Presidency. But in a surprising act of candor, he admitted the Bush administration did not lie about Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) in the lead up of the war. A caller had called in making the popular Democratic allegation, asking why the liars in the administration had not been punished for misleading Edwards and other Senators into believing Iraq had WMD. Edwards said he had checked with Clinton administration contacts and that they confirmed the belief Iraq had WMD, and that's why he voted to support the invasion. This information is in stark contrast to what other Democrats have suggested (like Senator Chuck Schumer did on the same program yesterday), that the administration lied about WMD to trick Senators into approving the war. But if Schumer is lying about calling the administration liars, that makes Schumer a lying liar! (Which happens to be a the name of a book put out by Democrats to describe Republicans.) The Washington spin machine can really get tough to follow... See Chick's THE MAD MACHINE.
