Two new tracts and a new book from Chick

September sees not one, but TWO new tracts drawn by Jack Chick. One is a Negro version of BEST FRIENDS, renamed (with black characters) as SOUL SISTERS. The other one is a story about a kid who almost gets her cat sacrificed, called HERE KITTY KITTY. It's drawn in the style of PEANUTS, the Charles Schultz cartoon strip. Chick may be up there in years, but he's not adverse to trying new things! And if that were not enough, the release of a new book on the origins of the Catholic virgin Mary is fully illustrated by Chick, called BABYLON RELIGION. It's 224 pages long and stuffed full of really good Chick toons! The author is David Daniels, who's written two other books with Chick illustrations thus far.

The new "Kitty" tract is a perfect tract for all of those 9 year old children that like to do live animal blood sacrifices on Halloween (so they can get good grades in school, of course). Am I missing something or is this the most bizarre chick tract yet? How can something this wierd and irrelevant come on the heels of the new tract "Men of Peace?" It's hard to believe that both of these tracts came from the same source. Not only is the storyline off but the artwork is totally "blah." Dumb it down any more and we'll probably be looking at stick figures that will compete with the graphics in the "Four Spiritual Laws." I love Chick tracts and pass them out regularly. But this title won't be handed out to any trick or treaters coming to my door. I give this tract a C for "CAT get's saved."

I thought the art was very basic in this tract as well, and I wondered if there was another artist at work. But I was told Chick was just tipping his hat to cartoonist Charles Schultz of PEANUTS fame. The art in Chick's latest 224 fully illustrated book "Babylon", is really fantastic. He hasn't lost his talent in the least.
